1,560 HP Supercharged Gen 3 Hemi Built for Tanner Ellingsen’s ’68 Dart
When we first talked to Tanner Ellingsen, we knew we’d enjoy working with him. The more we grew to know him, the more we liked him and where this was headed.
Let’s start with he’s exactly the kind of guy whose G3 Hemi powered dreams, that we exist to help. In this specific case, a guy with a Big Block Mopar powered car, looking to make the switch to a G3 Hemi and go faster. Better yet, in his just beautiful, black, well constructed ‘68 Dart, with an initial goal to take it into the north west Top Sportsman ranks.
So we started the journey building him a Race Spec 1,300+ engine, then, God bless him, he opted for the all US made, Callies crank and rods, simultaneously bumping the displacement from 392 to 421 CID. He mentioned getting to the 6s, so I offered some help upgrading the supercharger package to a tuned up, new 130 mm TB inlet Whipple Superchargers 3.0l Hellcat street supercharger and lastly, he went with the big oiling system improvement of a remote oil pump. The goal, give him the power to get to 6s when he’s ready and make it reliable and consistent for going rounds in Top Sportsman.
So what do we call this blend of a Race Spec 1,300+, 1,500+ with the cubes of a 1,700+…think we call it the ‘Tanner Special’.
Working with the always awesome team at BES, the parts wrangled by Brett, engine built by Ben, and Richie and I teamed up to put it through it’s paces and with Keaton White bringing us a little more pulley (that got mis shipped overnight to the home shop). It might not take a village to build the first Tanner Special but a great team of Hemi Brothers and Sisters sure makes it happen.
At 1,560 HP, and more than 1,600 in it, with a hydraulic roller Mach 3 cam, it is ready for some low maintenance, 6 second passes, when he is ready.
A great day at the horsepower factory, and there was Skyline.
As his young son said after seeing the dyno video , ‘Hemi Baby !!!’. We think the Tanner Special should definitely help him go get after those G3 Hemi powered dreams this race season and we can’t wait to see his win light coming on.
