Blackbird Performance has been WTFO this week, all week.
Keaton Vester and I began the week reconfiguring, installing some awesome new Santhuff's Suspension Specialties product and setting up chassis on a couple of the cars. So very thankful and greatly appreciate the counsel, coaching and support of Mike Roth as we worked our way through some pretty big changes / atypical setups.
Then Carey Bales, the wizard of wiring, showed up to work on Doug Ritter Demon totally rewire job. Of course, I might be a bit biased, but in my opinion, he did just a fantastic job on it as we were out and about working elsewhere. AND, it turns out he’s not just the wizard of wiring, a great dog dad and human, he’s also the beast of beef jerky, the stuff he makes is just fantastic !
So while he was wiring, we were once again out at Beech Bend Raceway, where Broc Porter and his crew always take great care of us, first testing one car and then back out to test two more.
We definitely got Team Underdawg Racing moving the right direction with the changes made and are looking forward to learning more at Norwalk very soon.
Later Brad Kosiba and Catherine Kosiba joined us with their Modern Street HEMI Shootout Drag Pak Spec Shootout configured race ride, and were able to get some good data on a different Coan Engineering torque converter.
And then, a moment we and Kevin Braun, have long been waiting for, he came down from the still warming up north to join us in 100+ degree heat to test. On his third run, and first full one, he demonstrated that he and the car had quickly bonded, but the rear lexan window bonding to the car, not so much. Despite that a good, very soft and easy pass in the low 8s approaching 170 (with no rear window 😀). Next time, we will sort it out and fairly confidently get him deep in the 7s.
Last but not least, Carey and I focused on the Demon, and after sorting through a few strange, interesting and new problems / learning experiences, we got that bad boy running. We focused on simple, serviceable and robust to take this to a solid and reliable 8.50 index car, of course 300-400 lbs less wiring is a big step in that direction.
Now, we turn to BlackbirdX, to put the fresh Wild Turkey in, so Alex Austin Laughlin can get back in this baby Hemi, little tire, row your own beast after he hopefully does well today in his Redline NPK car. Along with the TUR Drag Pak, then off to Norwalk to do our best to bring some Dodge Whipple Superchargers Hemi heat to the Factory X and Factory Showdown.
Looking forward to that ice cream 😀
