A great couple days with the super capable team at BES Racing Engines. A place we lovingly refer to as the Horsepower Factory. For 15+ years now, these guys have not only put up with me and all the various G3 Hemi things we debated and tried, they are right there, way deep into it, dreaming with us the next thing to try, the next place we can push and improve, and how we just might work together to make even more G3 Hemi powered dreams come true.
Today, we ran an engine for Denny Dowson, who happens to have just won the Jeg’s Allstar Top Sportsman deal. This is an engine for a bracket car, which started out as an 1,100-1,200HP deal, largely based on a Hellcat engine…but at Blackbird Performance we were a little uncomfortable with that as a many, many round ‘race proven’ bracket engjne, and couldn’t help ourselves…we just built him one of our Race Spec 1,300+ engines, more appropriate for the mission.
We asked how far he wanted us to detune it and probably no surprise, a hard core Top Sportsman guy like himself said, just give me all of it.
Once again, Ben built a fine one, Richie helped get it on the dyno and up making pulls, and 4 pulls later, it was where it needed to be, at about 1,357 HP. Brett is keeping the whole horsepower making machine running hard as the tens and tens of projects on the list, headed into prime build season is growing. Our new dyno can’t come too soon to lighten some of the development and testing load.
Strangely enough, and it shouldn’t be a big surprise I suppose, as this crew can make any engine better, that they had a very familiar cylinder head in for some work, one from way back in the early 90s and my engine development career, a 3406E / C15 Cat.
A blast making horsepower with this crew and of course, there was also Skyline.
We’ll have to get to testing the next Race Spec 600+ next time as I need to get back home, so we can load up, and get to Texas to go Nitro racing over the next week. Nitro, this one, the four legged variety, that Jena has been working hard with and will be riding in the Apaloosa World Championships. Never fear, Keaton will be shipping parts daily while we are in Texas.
