Dirty Bird Is Ready to Fly Again: 1,000+ Laps Between Refreshes? That's the Goal.
Another G3 Hemi horsepower producing day, back working with the always fantastic team at BES Racing Engines.
Today, after a ~ 500 lap look see and refresh of the Blackbird Performance dirt Super Late Model G3 Hemi, it’s ready to go back to work for the Briggs Race Team.
Despite a bit of a wrong spark plug induced melt down, it was in remarkably good shape, indicating that 1,000 + laps between refreshes is very doable (equivalent to several 1,000s of drag strip passes). Ben the awesome builder and the whole crew at BES made quick work of getting it back together.
And while they continue to work their new chassis to put more of the power to work, all the way round the track, when in the straights and hooked up, it was clear and they strongly felt as if they were never at a power deficit ….to even the top team’s power. All true, but, we, of course couldn’t help ourselves and we looked for some more low hanging fruit on the refresh and found 20-30 more ponies for their now 875+ horsepower engine.
We also explored some intake and carb changes that indicate there is likely significantly more to get, more on that in the future.
We can’t wait to see this engine, affectionately named ‘Dirty Bird’ (credit Richie), back out doing it’s thing. It’s a very cost effective, durable 428 CID G3 Hemi, equipped with Blackbird Performance Race Prep New Factory casting heads, and host of our other products, built on the awesome and light foundation of the Callies G3 Aluminum block.
