Fast, Low Maintenance & Reliable Power!
After 15 years of working on G3 Hemis, unleashing their awesome potential to run hard, reliably and cost effectively with Tony Bischoff, Ben, Richie, Brett and the whole crew at BES Racing Engines, you might think it’d get old …but for me, it never does. I just love it. And the Skyline Chilli is pretty darn good too!
The last couple days we were testing a 422 G3 that master builder Ben straightened out, and that is headed back to the shop to go in the just beautiful red ‘70 ‘Cuda of DJ, driven by the big hitter bracket racer, Jeff Keen, that we were blessed to start working on in August.
The goal was to keep the engjne low maintenance and reliable as a fast car capable of going many rounds in competition, so we replaced some beat up pistons, put in a Blackbird Performance Mach 3 hydraulic cam, kept the very capable stock rockers and shafts, put some new factory coils on, ported the Whipple 3.0l, put a bigger pulley on it to slow down the blower and keep the boost 20 or less.
After some tuning on the dyno, with plenty more left to turn up, if they or someone later chooses, we crossed the line to a good stretch of 1,500+ HP, called it good and are headed home to get it back in the car and too the track before it gets too much later in the year.
So, so looking forward to seeing wheel man, Jeff put this 3,100 lbs, lots of original steel ‘Cuda down the track and deep in the 4s in the 1/8th.
