It was another eventful day on dynos for Blackbird Performance , beginning with remotely helping out Neil Jenks, running his home built, essentially Race Spec 600+ recipe 392, fired by an Afterburner, with a Mach 1 cam, that on the dyno he was using, 3rd pull made 602. Now headed to his Drag N Drive ride.
Closer to Skyline, I had the pleasure to once again be with the awesome team at BES Racing Engines where Brett, Ben and Richie worked their magic to build and help test the first of our Race Spec 1,200+ engines. Better yet, the proud new owner, Michael Schaefer, of it was able to come watch us put this first of it’s kind through it’s paces.
We knew this 392 G3 Hemi equipped with a Kong 2650, incorporating and enhanced with what we might call our ‘King Kong’ package of parts that both completes the package and equips it for Race/Swap duty (mechanical 130mm TB, prototype mechanical bypass, fuel rails, high performance intercooler bricks, and billet lid), our Race Prepped Hellcat heads, billet blower drive front cover, tensioner and bracket, Mach 3 cam, timing set and valve covers would likely exceed 1,200 so that’s why we called it the Race Spec 1,200+.
We were a bit shocked on the first baby pull with no timing, that at 7,000 it made 1,256 HP. We took some pulley away, went to a 3.25” up top (8.900 lower) added some timing and …. guess we’ll be calling it the Race Spec 1,300+ from now on.
We just can’t wait to see it in Mike’s beautiful ‘68 Dart, soon to be powered by another Hemi of the G3 variety.
His smile tells all us band of Hemi brothers and sisters that we got the job done today helping him take this step in making his G3 Hemi powered, soon to be 7 second, dream one step closer to reality. We can’t wait to see the smile after the first good hit in the ‘68 Dart.
We have several of these already in the build pipeline, the next wants us to detune it to 1,100ish and I’m beginning to think restrictor plate. We think in a lot of places, this little Hemi at $29,900 complete blow to pan, ought to help a lot of folks realize G3 Hemi powered dreams, and that is why we are here.
Get ‘er running Michael, and tighten up the front end and/or strengthen them wheelie bars
